How to Compare Leaf Removal Quotes

Will the crew take the leaves with them, or will you come home to bags by the curb? Put the disposal plan in your request so both crews price the same job.

The short answer

List the areas you want cleared and say whether the leaves should be mulched on the lawn, bagged for pickup or hauled away. Ask who supplies bags, whether disposal is included and what another visit would cost. List branches and other debris separately.

Mark the areas you want cleared

List the front lawn, back lawn, garden beds, driveway and paths separately. Describe whether the leaves are scattered or piled up, and note any narrow gates, steps or beds to leave alone. If you share photos, keep house numbers, people and license plates out of the frame. Leave exact addresses, access codes and contact details out of the public request.

Choose what should happen to the leaves

Ask whether the amount of leaves on your lawn is suitable for mulching or whether some need to be collected. If bags will stay at your property, check whether your hauler will pick them up. Minneapolis residents using city pickup can check the city's current collection dates and accepted containers.

Mulch in place

Mulching chops the leaves into small pieces that stay on the lawn. Confirm which areas can be mulched and what happens where there is too much material to leave on the lawn.

Bag for pickup

Ask who supplies bags and where the crew will leave them.

Haul away

Confirm that the offer covers loading, transport and disposal. Ask whether branches and other debris are separate.

Use the same request to compare each offer

Suppose one quote clears the lawn and leaves bags at the curb. The other includes the lawn, garden beds and hauling. If you want the beds cleared and the leaves taken away, ask the first crew to price those two items and give you a revised total. Confirm whether each price is a fixed total or an estimate, and ask what could change it. If you expect another round of leaves, ask each crew to price a return visit separately.

What to put in a leaf removal request

Fill in the details that apply. “Please clear leaves from [areas]. The leaves are [scattered or piled up]. Access is through [gate or path]. I’d like the leaves [mulched on the lawn, bagged for pickup or hauled away]. Please show whether bags and disposal are included and price [branches or a return visit] separately.”

Before you choose

  • List the lawn, beds and hard surfaces you want cleared.
  • State where leaves should end up.
  • Call out branches, bag costs and disposal separately.
  • Ask whether the offer includes another visit after more leaves fall.
